Calendar

Upcoming Events
  • Deaf group get togethers continue to be held on the 2nd Sunday of every month in the fellowship hall unless there is a conflict with some holidays or special events.  We do not meet in August.  In September we will meet from 5pm to 9pm so that KSD students have the opportunity to join us and we meet at this time during the fall and spring for this reason.  In the winter and summer, we change the meeting time to 1pm to 5pm primarily for weather considerations.  We enjoy potluck, Bible study, games and good fellowship.  Family and friends are always welcome.
  • For our deaf youth, we provide interpreters at the “Underground” youth group gatherings which are twice a month on Sunday evenings at Redeemer and led by our favorite youth minister, Dave Willilngham, who has learned lots of sign language and doesn't hesitate to try to use it!!  He even attends KSD games! (He’s gotten to go to LVR in Colorado with our deaf youth for 2 years in a row now along with Larry Zimmerman who helps out with the youth and deaf groups so we thank them both for all their support!)  Check the church calendar for the Underground schedule.

  • Monthly Bible study and “deaf worship” are being held at Trinity West (62nd St and 7 Hwy). For info on dates, contact Ann Erickson at ericksonsigns@hotmail.comRev. Darrel Matthews and Ann and Lisa Erickson facilitate these events.

In The News...
  • In July, we met from 1pm to 5pm at Redeemer on Sunday the 12th and enjoyed salads and desserts, Bible study and games.  We also prayed for God’s blessing in diagnosis, treatment, and healing for Kim Rocha, Karla Knoll, and Glenn Dunkle who are experiencing serious health problems and gave thanks to God for allowing Earl Mantooth to regain his health.
  • In June, 3 KSD youth once again attended Lutheran Valley Retreat in Colorado for a week and enjoyed the services of 2 interpreters and God’s love shown through other Christian youth and counselors/pastors. The KSD students were Thomas Gonzalez, Daniel Gott, and Nathan Brown and their tuition's were assisted by Redeemer members and by the Clockwinders Optimist Club of Olathe.  Also, Thrivent for Lutherans and Redeemer’s LWML Ruth Circle and deaf group contributed to covering the cost of the interpreter expenses.  Thank you to everyone who supported this!
  • On Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13, our deaf group camped out and cooked out at Hillsdale Lake and shelter # 3.  It was such a success that we will plan to do this again.  Many members who could not camp overnight still joined us on Friday evening for campfire s’mores and scary stories and returned for the cookout and picnic on Saturday along with taking walks and going swimming/fishing.
  • On June 15 through 18, Peggy Gott, Esther Zimmerman, and John Autry were at Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka attending Deaf LITES (Lutherans in training, equipping, and serving).  It was a wonderful experience learning how to develop sign language skills for growing deaf ministry through interpreted worship and through involving deaf members.  We extend a special thanks to Redeemer’s LWML and to the KS Deaf Ministry Task Force for providing 2 full $330 scholarships.
  • The Midwest International  Lutheran Deaf Association meeting will be at Camp Webster near Salina, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 9, 10, and 11, 2009.  This event is open to all deaf who live in the Midwest and to anyone in the Midwest interested in deaf ministry.  Cost of attending and more specific information will be coming in September.  Hopefully, Redeemer will be taking our bus to provide transportation to many deaf who live along the way.

Deaf Interpreter provided at the 10:45 Worship Service each Sunday.
