Music Ministry Information
What is worship? It is the glorification of God and the sanctification of humanity. Worship is a distinct response to a distinct revelation; movement of the abiding God towards His creature, and our response. Prayer and action are ways in which man replies to this utterance of the Word. Nothing glorifies God more than a human’s being made holy; nothing is more likely to make a person holy than the desire to glorify God.
Music is a very important part of our worship. Music styles have changed through the centuries, yet we retain many chants and hymns from the first few centuries. Music used in our worship, choir responses and hymns/songs, ranges from medieval to baroque to early American folk songs to African and South American to music written last year or last week by composers worldwide. We, at Redeemer, retain the liturgy used for centuries, and thoughtfully choose hymns, songs and responses that most convey the love and praise we offer to God in our worship.
Music for worship is carefully selected to not only reflect the tone and time of the liturgical year, and specific to the appointed lessons for the Day, but to also help the worshipping community. |
